THERE’S no getting away from it, tomorrow’s clash with Exeter at Rodney Parade is a massive game for both sides.

If we’re honest we’ll admit that we’re both in poor form and we both need a win.

It should be a decent crowd on a sunny Sunday afternoon and we need three points.

That is the bottom line. It doesn’t really matter how we play; we just need to get a win on the board and end this run that we’re on.

We need to change the momentum of our season before anything silly starts happening and we’re looking over our shoulders at the bottom two.

You always aim for 50 points to make sure you stay up so we probably only need two wins and then we can start looking up the table again.

But I’m not even allowing myself to think about the ‘R’ word and the rest of the players are the same.

It would just be unthinkable for this club to go back down to the Conference after all the hard work it took to get us back to the Football League over a quarter of a century.

We’ve got Exeter and Dagenham at home this week so it’s a big opportunity to get some points on the board and put those worries to bed.

And if we do get a few wins then, you never know, we could still be in contention for the play-offs because this division is just so tight.

At least one team always comes in with a late run so we’ve got to keep working hard and hope that it’s us this year.

We’ve got eight home games left and only four away so that should be to our advantage. I fancy us at home against anyone.

People aren’t going to want to come here to play us on that pitch but at the same time we can’t just expect to turn up and win.

We’ve not been doing that to be fair but we’ve been giving sloppy goals away.

That has been the most frustrating thing because we’re actually gifting goals rather than making teams work hard to score against us and that has to stop.

The red card obviously changed the game against Morecambe on Tuesday but we were sloppy and they cut us open far too easily, even though we had ten men. We let ourselves down and anybody who thinks any different is wrong.

But the good thing about football is that another game is always around the corner and we have the chance to put that right tomorrow.

The sprit is good in the camp. There’s been a lot said after the news about me and David Pipe leaving in the summer emerged but the team spirit is as good as ever at this club.

People have claimed there was a split in the dressing room but that’s just not true.

We had some good honest words between us after Tuesday’s defeat and a great team-bonding trip to the Cheltenham Festival on Wednesday.

People might raise a few eyebrows because of the way our season has gone of late but it was just what we needed as a squad.

We needed to lift the doom and gloom and change the atmosphere and it has made us even stronger as a group.

It was a great day with all the players, the manager and Jimmy Dack and we bumped into Tim Harris as well so I think it will have done us a lot of good.

I didn’t back many winners though; hopefully I’m saving up all my luck for tomorrow!
