BLACKWOOD aim to topple Bargoed on their own patch tomorrow afternoon in a crunch weekend at the wrong end of the Championship, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Glan-yr-Afon Park outfit (22 points from 18 games) are involved in a tussle to avoid the drop with Bonymaen (20 from 19) and Beddau (26 from 20), who clash in Swansea this weekend.

It promises to be a nervy, tight end to the season and a shock victory against fourth-placed Bargoed would do Blackwood the power of good.

Matthew Veater's side were edged out 22-11 when the teams met in October and could desperately do with avoiding another pointless afternoon.

Blackwood were predictably thumped by unbeaten leaders Ebbw Vale last Friday – a game that was good to get out of the way – but their backs looked lively and will hope to have more ball in hand at Bargoed Park.

Pontypool will look to keep their push for second place going by triumphing at Cardiff Met.

The pair are among six clubs that are eyeing the runners-up spot behind champions-elect Ebbw Vale and Pooler, who haven't won away since edging out Newbridge on December 14, could do with schooling the students.

RGC 1404 currently sit second and welcome third-placed Tata Steel to north Wales this weekend.
