GLAMORGAN have made a good start to the season; we enter May unbeaten in the County Championship and right in mix for promotion to Division Two.
Sure, it's still early days but the signs have been promising – getting off to a flying start to win by 10 wickets at Surrey and then showing plenty of fighting spirit to draw with Gloucestershire and Leicestershire.
We found ourselves in some sticky situations in our last two games but dug deep to earn 8 and 11 points respectively. We also played some quality cricket and have some players in great form.
All-rounder Graham Wagg has been superb and took 4-107 and 4-65 at Grace Road either side of a superb 57 with the bat.
Only Test seamer Steve Finn is above him in the FTI most valuable player rankings and I feel that Waggy and Jim Allenby should at least be being talked about as England possibles.
All they can do is keep performing like they have and if we are a winning side then I am sure new international coach Peter Moores and his selectors will be having a good look at them, along with plenty of other talented players in our squad.
We are about to enter the really busy part of the season, it's first-placed Worcestershire tomorrow and then second-placed Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl (a happy hunting ground after last year's YB40 semi-final win) for both a four-day game and our first fixture in the Natwest T20 blast.
These two games before the limited over cricket starts up are vital – we are fourth and there is a gap developing to the teams below us but we are looking up.
Worcester head to the Swalec Stadium in great form and not only have Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal in their side but they've been boosted by bringing big-hitting England opener Alex Hales in on loan from Nottinghamshire.
They sit on the top of Division Two but we are at home and, with the weather looking fine, need to win games like this if we are to go up.
It will be a great challenge and the key will be to deal with a world class performer like Ajmal without getting sidetracked by him; Worcestershire are a good team and we cannot afford to just worry about one individual.
But I am sure they head to Cardiff thinking about how they need to deal with our quality players as well. It should be a great game.
