NEWPORT'S Jon Mould hopes to use the experience of four years ago to feature on the podium in Glasgow at the Commonwealth Games.

The 23-year-old has today been named in Wales' 17-strong cycling team for next month's Games, joining Abergavenny's double world champion Becky James and double Olympic gold medallist Geraint Thomas in Scotland.

Mould will race in the scratch and points events at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome as well as the road race and hopes that his exploits at Delhi 2010 can help him achieve his "doable" medal target.

He raced in the team pursuit, when Wales were controversially disqualified, came seventh in the scratch race and helped Sam Harrison finish fourth in the points race.

Mould has gone from strength to strength since then and won World Cup medals on the track in Columbia in 2012 and Manchester last year, results that show he will be a force to reckoned with in Glasgow.

"It's really good to get the chance to wear the Welsh jersey against and winning a medal is a realistic goal if I prepare right," said Mould.

"It's nice to come back after four years with a bit more experience and get stuck into the racing.

"I'm going well at the moment and have won three rounds of the Tour Series but there is still a bit more to come from me.

"The track is my main aim because that's my best chance for a medal but we'll have a really strong team on the road with Geraint, Luke Rowe, Sam, Owain Doull and Scott Davies.

"The quality across the board in Welsh cycling is amazing and I bet the team was quite hard to choose."

Mould has a lengthy palmares but Glasgow promises to be different to the events that he has impressed at since joining the professional ranks. While 2010 didn't go to plan on the track, it did give him a taste of what is to come at the end of July.

"Delhi was a great experience," he said. "It was valuable learning to take part in a multi-sport competition where you are in a food hall with all other athletes."
