SENIOR citizens can enjoy a free day at the races this month, courtesy of Chepstow Racecourse.
Anyone aged 60 or over will be admitted free of charge to the course on Monday, June 23.
Horse racing is Britain’s second most popular spectator sport and generates around £3.7 billion for the economy. Chepstow is one of the biggest tracks in the country and customers come from areas including Newport, Cardiff, Bristol and Gloucester.
The ‘seniors go free’ promotion is one of many underway at the course this summer. Other events include Jools Holland Racenight this Friday, Tom Jones Racenight on Friday, July 11, Ladies Night on Thursday, August 14, and The Big Family Funday on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25.
The Coral Welsh Grand National is the winter highlight on Saturday, December 27.
There are seven races on Monday, June 23, starting at 2pm. The gates open at noon and parking is free.
Phil Bell, South West executive director for the Arena Racing Company says: “Horse racing is a great day out for adults and children. We are always working on new initiatives to encourage more people to along. We really hope plenty of people take advantage of the free offer on June 23."
Customers travelling by train can catch a shuttle bus from Chepstow Station and from Newport organised by Newport Transport.
