PONTYPRIDD will attempt to retain their title when the second Foster’s National Sevens takes place at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.
The Premiership champions triumphed in the capital last year and will try and repeat the trick on bank holiday Sunday, August 24.
Ponty will battle their 11 Premiership rivals – including Cross Keys, Ebbw Vale, Newport and Bedwas – as well as Championship pair Cardiff Met and RGC 1404 and Wales Students.
The competition will take the same format as last year’s successful event with a cup and plate competition taking place after round one matches, enabling every team to play at least two matches.
Pontypridd head coach Paul John, whose side will be seeded at next month’s draw along with fellow 2013 semi-finalists Llandovery, Aberavon and RGC, hopes that the tournament will live up to last year’s inaugural event.
"The players got to express themselves in the seven-a-side game, the coaches got to have a look at players ahead of the season and it was just generally a good day out,” he said.
“The structure of the day was excellent, with clubs happy with the number of quality games they played, the 3G pitch means the conditions are the same for everyone throughout the day and with the city centre location, it's perfect for a full day's entertainment.”
Tickets cost £10 for adults, £5 for under-16s and £20 for a family ticket (two adults, two children).
