NEWPORT Titans are looking to prevent Bridgend Blue Bulls from going to the top of the Welsh Conference South when they clash at Pyle RFC this afternoon (kick-off 2pm).
League leaders and champions Torfaen Tigers are not in action as their scheduled opponents Gwendraeth Valley Raiders have players and coaches away with Wales in the Commonwealth Championships.
That means that Bridgend can take top spot but they will have to overcome a Titans side that produced a sterling performance when thumping Gwendraeth Valley Raiders 38-14 in Maesglas.
Scott Bessant, joint coach with Lewis Culverwell, said: “After a good win and a solid performance last weekend we are feeling good about where we are as a team at the moment.
“The Bulls will be a big challenge due to their impressive run of form but if we stick to everything that we have been through at training as well as building on the weaker areas I think we can give it a good go.
“Our discipline has improved no end too; just a few minor errors that will be smoothed out in training.
“We will certainly be playing with everything we have this weekend against an opponent I know are going to produce some great rugby.”
Other Welsh Conference South fixtures: Valley Cougars A v Cardiff Demons (Penallta RFC, 12.30pm), Cardiff Spartans v Aber Valley Wolves (Llandaff North RFC, 2pm)
