MICA Moore admits she can’t wait to taste the Commonwealth Games atmosphere after rubbing shoulders with the great and the good at the Sainsbury’s British Championships.
Buoyed by being named in Wales’ 4x100m relay squad for the Games, Newport sprinter Moore arrived at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium looking to fine tune ahead of Glasgow.
And the 21-year-old ensured she would be in action on both days as Saturday saw her squeeze through her heat with a fastest-loser time of 11.95 seconds after crossing the line fourth.
However she was unable to repeat the trick 24 hours later as she could only manage 12.02 in her semi-final as she came home seventh.
But despite missing out on the showpiece Moore was not about to get too disheartened with the biggest competition of her young career fast approaching.
“I didn’t do as well as I wanted to in the semi-final but I have done a lot of races this year so I am a bit tired and this competition is just for a bit of fun and there is nothing riding on it,” said Moore, who hopes to compete throughout the Summer Series – events proudly backed by long-term supporter Sainsbury’s.
“I am quite pleased to have made the semi-final because last year I didn’t so I have progressed from last year so there is plenty to take away from it.
“I felt tired going in and it is tough because we have the Commonwealth Games coming up so I am trying to train hard for that and still compete so it is quite tiring.
“I have a Women’s League meet next which is relaxed and then I will be training with the relay squad before we go out to Portugal for some warm weather training.
“I am not too worried about times of anything this weekend because I am just training hard in preparation for the Commonwealths and I can’t wait for it now.”
While Wales' Rhys Williams just missed out on a 400m hurdles medal in fourth, Brett Morse won silver in the men’s discus, Sally Peake took gold in the women’s pole vault and Lee Doran won gold in the javelin.
Sainsbury’s is proud to support British Athletics through the Summer Series events and committed to helping young people lead healthier, more active lifestyles. For more information visit www.sainsburys.co.uk/legacy
