NEWPORT Harriers runner Seb Blanch won the senior boys 400m final at the Welsh Schools Championships in Cardiff at the weekend.
The 17-year-old Bassaleg School pupil finished in 48.82 seconds, almost two seconds ahead of Marcus Bayona-Martinez from Builth.
Mark Jones (Caerleon School) was third in the 3000m and Kyle Arnold (Caldicot) was second in the 110m hurdles final.
Bassaleg’s Sam Hughes finished second in the triple jump, third in the long jump ahead of Arnold and fourth in the high jump.
In the senior girls event Emma Hennessy of St Joseph’s in Newport won the 400m hurdles.
In the middle boys competition Ellis Wharton (Croesyceiliog School) was second in the 100m final and Tom Reynolds (Monmouth Comprehensive) fourth.
In the 400m Thomas Arnold (Blackwood) was first and Josh Ford of Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw in Pontypool second.
Lewis Daniels (Abersychan) was second in the 800m final, Alex Williams (Abertillery) finished third in the 3000m and James McCarthy was third in the 100m hurdles.
In the middle girls competition Eve Williams (Cwmcarn) was first in the 300m and second in the 200m.
Isobel Parry Jones of King Henry VIII School in Abergavenny was second in the 800m, Jodie Beynon (Ebbw Fawr) was third in the 80m hurdles.
Millie Fakande (Brynmawr) finished second in the long jump while Hannah Morgan (Gwynllyw) was third in the discus and the hammer.
In the junior boys event Oakley Mighten (Rougemont) was second in the 100m, Kellen Jones (St Joseph’s) won the long jump and Finley Hazel (Newbridge) won the triple jump.
And in the junior girls competition Armani Williams (St Joseph’s) finished second in the 200m, Lauren Stockley (King Henry VIII) won the 1500m, Gabby Fakande (Brynmawr) was second in the long jump and Bella Seymour (Haberdashers) came home third in the 1km walk.
