NEWBRIDGE will be paying tribute to a club stalwart known affectionately as 'The Cat' when they open their new scoreboard on Sunday.
The club will be taking on an Invitational XI in a memorial game for Leighton Rees, who died last July at the age of 53 because of a brain tumour.
Newbridge have refurbished their scorebox in his honour with funds that were raised by his friends at both the club and his work, InBev.
"Leighton was extremely well known and popular throughout South Wales, representing Monmouthshire on many occasions and scoring 36 centuries during a long career," said Newbridge chairman Jonathan Kinsey.
"He is massively missed by all; he was truly one of the great club characters of Monmouthshire cricket."
The game starts at 1.30pm and there is a bar, barbecue and entertainment throughout the day.
