TEAM Wales has its first medals at Glasgow 2014 after the women’s rhythmic gymnastics team claimed silver.
Frankie Jones, Nikara Jenkins and Laura Halford finished second behind Commonwealth champions Canada and ahead of bronze medallists Malaysia.
For Jones, whose father hails from Pontypool it capped a whirlwind 24 hours after she flew the flag for Wales at the opening ceremony.
“Last time I won a medal on the last day and this time on the first day is incredible,” said Jones, who won individual silver in Delhi four years ago.
“It’s not comparable to Delhi because that four-year journey has been so long and I am in a completely different place.
“It has been such an amazing 24 hours after carrying the flag at the opening ceremony.
“Being out in front of such an incredible group of people was perhaps the proudest moment of my life.
“I just have to calm down now and I need a sleep!
“There is more to do on Friday.”
Jones added: “We did not expect anything but we have trained so hard to here and we know we can do our job.
“I am so proud of Laura and Nikara because it is such a big experience for them.
“They have never been to a major multi-sport championships like this before.
“So for them to before so composed was amazing.”
