NEWPORT shooter Elena Allen has won Gwent’s first medal at Glasgow 2014, taking silver in the women's skeet final.
Australia's Laura Coles beat Allen to win the gold, scoring 14-16 to Allen's 13-16.
But it was a fabulous effort from 42-year-old Allen, born in Moscow but a long-term Newport resident.
Her husband and coach Malcolm Allen is also a shooter and is competing in Glasgow and her mother previously competed at the Olympic Games in shooting.
"It's nice to win something and I'm really happy for Laura who did well today," she said after the final.
"I don't find it difficult in shoot-offs, it goes back to zero and I feel all the pressure is off," she added.
"I would definitely like to achieve more and I will be back for sure."
Gold medal winner Coles said: "I just about couldn't believe what I had done - a dream.
"I hoped to make the semi-finals and after that everything would be a bonus.
"The winning shot was very nerve-racking but I just stuck to the process."
