THE end is nigh in Glasgow and, while there is much excitement about Usain Bolt running in the relay tonight, attention is already turning to tomorrow’s closing ceremony featuring another international diva – Kylie Minogue.

But there is a warning for anyone booked to appear as a haggis on a trapeze or a deep fried Mars bar being fired out of a cannon – make sure you clear it with your boss!

A nursery worker is in hot water after being spotted on TV by her stunned bosses as a dancing Tunnock's tea cake during the Games opening ceremony – while on sick leave.

Amy McIntosh could now lose her job after taking part in the event while signed off from Woodlands Day Nursery in Houston, Renfrewshire.

It’s understood the 25-year-old had been off work with tonsillitis for several weeks prior to the opening ceremony but had attended the rehearsals which began at the start of the month.

McIntosh is now certain to be hauled over the coals by her bosses.

A source told the Daily Record: “Nobody could believe it when they saw her on TV, bold as brass.

“She must have been at rehearsals at the same time she was saying that she wasn’t well enough to work. It's very disappointing.”

After the ceremony, McIntosh's pals praised her on her Facebook page, with one saying that she was 'shining bright like the star that you are’.

……………..

Another person with some explaining to do at the Games is Welsh cycling star Geraint Thomas.

Asked about noticing the city’s landmarks along the time trial course Thomas was quoted as saying: “I'll be trying to focus on the road – but if there are any nice-looking girls along the way that'll break up my effort a bit!”

That didn’t go down too well with his fiancée Sara who is up in Glasgow cheering him on.

When quizzed about the remark after winning bronze in the time trial Thomas revealed that Games News – the in-house reporting service – had actually been talking to Welsh teammate Luke Rowe and not him.

“That was Luke who did that interview for me,” said Thomas.

“The woman didn’t know who it was and thought it was me! It’s quite funny.”

Well, that is his story and he’s sticking to it! And his attention will be stuck firmly on the road and his rivals as he goes for gold in tomorrow’s road race.
