NEWPORT County boss Justin Edinburgh feels the Exiles are in a position to emulate their fast start to life in League Two after a positive pre-season.
County made a brilliant transition last term, their first in the Football League in 25-years and Edinburgh believes they can do it again this term.
The Exiles have gone unbeaten in pre-season and have suffered only a single injury, to midfielder Max Porter, as they ready themselves for the visit of Wycombe and the big kick-off this weekend.
And they added to their list of impressive victories on Saturday by powering to a 3-0 triumph at a West Ham development side, Yan Klukowski, Chris Zebroski and Rene Howe with the goals.
“We are very happy with how it has gone, it’s a nice one to cap off our pre-season where we’ve had some good performances,” Edinburgh reflected.
“We have played some good stuff and worked very well in terms of fitness throughout the time we’ve had together.
“Our pressing has been good and on Saturday we scored three good goals as well.
“But as I’ve kept re-iterating, the major thing is that we’ve only had the injury to Max, we’ve not had anything like the problems we had last season.
“We are going to start the season with almost a fully fit squad to choose from and that’s the most important thing.
“We should take a lot of confidence into the season and we know that Wycombe is the real acid test.”
Meanwhile, the Exiles might have missed out on target Christian Doige after he featured for Dagenham and Redbridge over the weekend.
Doige, with Carmarthen in the Welsh Premier League, spent a week on trial with the Exiles following a tip from County fan Kevin Morris.
However, Newport, while insisting at the time they were keen to have another look at Doige, are understood not to have followed up their interest.
That allowed Dagenham to offer the player a trial and he scored on Saturday as they were defeated 2-1 by a Tottenham Hotspur development side that featured England U21 man Tom Carroll, on loan at Queens Park Rangers last season.
