IT’S been a good week for everyone at the club with a great win at Portsmouth and one of our young stars getting a chance to impress at Manchester United.
The 1-0 victory at Fratton Park last Saturday was a big result for us after the start we’ve had and a superb performance against a big club at a great stadium.
The lads really stood up to be counted and I felt we deserved the win. We were the better team and we bossed the key areas.
We won the battles all round the pitch, got the clean sheet and got three points so it was a good day.
And if we can beat Cambridge on Monday we’ll be right back on track.
The start wasn’t ideal but I definitely wasn’t panicking because there are still 41 games left and we’re playing well now.
I was pleased to be involved in the squad again because it shows I am still in the manager’s plans.
All I can do is stay fit and make sure I’m ready when called upon.
I really enjoyed getting 45 minutes in the friendly against Bristol Rovers in midweek as well.
I think you get more out of games like that than training sometimes.
We played pretty well and got a comfortable win, which keeps the momentum going.
Joe Parker did pretty well in an unfamiliar role at right wing-back and we haven’t really got cover for Ryan Jackson there so it could be a chance for Joe to adapt his game and get in the side.
Christian Jolley looked sharp as well. He’s a great lad and a top player and he’s maybe trying too hard at the minute.
But we know what he can do and I’m sure he’ll be back to his best before too long.
One of their players blasted a clearance onto the SDR during that game and with the number of armed police hanging around I’m surprised it wasn’t shot out of the air.
Despite the disruptions to us at Rodney Parade I think the Nato summit has been brilliant for the city. I know there’s been a bit of inconvenience for everyone but it’s really put us on the map.
Events like this and the Ryder Cup can only be good I think, especially if they attract new businesses and investment for the city.
We do like a moan in this country but I’m definitely for it and it was great to see the most important man in the world in Newport.
And I’m not talking about Justin Edinburgh! But we’re playing our part as well with our success in League Two so long may that continue.
Because of Obama’s presence we weren’t able to play our Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Swindon and our home league game against Cambridge has been moved to Monday night.
It means we’re training all weekend and I don’t get a day off because I’ll be with the youth team in Oxford this morning but I’m really enjoying it.
The gaffer took a training session with the boys on Tuesday, which was great and shows he’s supporting what we’re doing.
Tom Owen Evans played in that friendly against Rovers as well and, as I’m sure you’ve all heard, we’ve got Regan Poole up at Manchester United this week.
He’s only 16 but he’s got great potential and it’s a fantastic opportunity for him with one of the biggest clubs in the world wanting to see what he can do.
He’s also on the standby list for the Wales under-17s so he’s getting noticed and that’s great for him and for all the youngsters at the club to know that people are watching them.
It also means that even though I’ve only been in the job for eight weeks I must be doing something right!
