PONTYPOOL United Youth will go for glory at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday in the Welsh Rugby Union Youth finals day.
For the first time every youth team was playing for a chance to reach the home of Welsh rugby with a Plate and Bowl added to the WRU Youth Cup in a three-tier knockout competition.
At 11am Ystalyfera take on Ystradgynlais in a local derby for the Bowl then Pontypool United play Rhydyfelin in the Plate final at 1.15pm and the Cup sees Penallta and Pontypridd tussling at 3.30pm featuring a number of players who helped Wales Under-18s beat England in March.
Tickets for the finals day are £5 for adults. There is free entry for under-16s but a ticket will be required and will be available from the WRU ticket office (8 Westgate Street) and from ticket booths on the gate three ramp.
The Under-14 and Under-16 Schools finals take place next Wednesday and an under-18s girls match between the East and West will be on Tuesday, April 28 (kick-off 3pm).
The culmination of the series of matches takes place on Wednesday, April 29 with Coleg y Cymoedd hoping to make it third time lucky as they face Coleg Sir Gar in the final of the WRU Under 18 Wednesday League (5.15pm), live on S4C's Rygbi Pawb.
The finals of the DC Thomas Cup (midday) and Dewar Shield (2.30pm) take place on the same day.
WRU head of rugby Josh Lewsey said, “We strongly believe that our schools, clubs and colleges are the lifeblood of the game in Wales.
“It is here that young people develop lifelong friendships and a deep love of the game, while improving rugby skills that will help them to reach their potential in the game.
“By hosting these finals at the Millennium Stadium, we hope to recognise the efforts of all players, coaches and volunteers who do so much to help grow and sustain the game in Wales.
“We hope everyone involved will be inspired by the experience – and I’m sure the teams will themselves inspire all those looking on from the sidelines.”
