STRIKER Miles Storey is keen to stay at Newport County AFC but he says planning for next season will have to wait as the squad prepare for three games that will decide the club’s fate in this campaign.
The 21-year-old, on loan from Swindon Town, says he would be open to making his move to Rodney Parade a permanent one.
But he insists that he and the rest of the players out of contract this summer will be fully focused on gaining maximum points from the final three games as they attempt to claim a League Two play-off spot.
“I’m enjoying my time here because I’m playing games but that’s a conversation that needs to be left until the summer really,” said Storey ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Dagenham & Redbridge.
“There’s been a lot of faith shown in me by Jimmy Dack, Wayne Hatswell and all the coaching staff.
“They’ve given me some minutes on the pitch, in different positions, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.
“We’ll just see what happens in the summer but we’ve got three important games first.”
After Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Southend United, a third straight loss for Jimmy Dack’s men, Storey says the Exiles must beat Dagenham, York City and Oxford United to have any hope of sealing a top-seven place.
He knows that the fans are frustrated by recent performances, which have seen County draw 2-2 at home to relegation-threatened Hartlepool United and lose 2-0 to promotion-chasing Exeter City, Bury and Southend.
But Storey says nobody is more frustrated than the players.
“It’s very frustrating,” he said. “You don’t know how many times in your career you’re going to get close to anything like this.
“I’m 21 so it’s a big thing for me and for a lot of the players.
“I know a couple of them have had promotions before but you just never know.
“You might never get anywhere near it again so I think we really just need to kick on in the last three games.
“We still might let it slip through our fingers but as long as we give it a good go in our last three games we can still hold our heads up high.”
