PUPILS from three schools in Gwent got on their bikes with three-time world champion British cyclist Dani King MBE at Wales National Velodrome in Newport this week.
Youngsters from Milton Junior School in Newport, Blaenavon Heritage V C Primary School and Llanfoist Fawr Primary School in Abergavenny took part in the event to mark the countdown to Velothon Wales, which takes place on Sunday, June 14.
The event comprises a 50km and 140km route and will welcome 15,000 riders to south east Wales, starting and finishing in Cardiff city centre on completely closed roads.
The budding cyclists took part in activities led by Welsh Cycling designed to improve cycle confidence and skills as well as meeting Olympic gold medalist King.
Each pupil was also given a certificate and T-shirt at the end of the session as part of the session, which has been designed to engage with the next generation of cyclists and fits into Welsh Cycling’s strategy of ‘inspiring Wales to cycle.’
