WING George North says the presence of three Newport Gwent Dragons young guns in Wales' World Cup training squad shows that good work is being done in the region, writes Pippa Field.

Warren Gatland named four players from the Rodney Parade side in his 47-man squad for England 2015 with regular number eight Taulupe Faletau joined by 20-year-old wing Hallam Amos, 20-year-old centre Jack Dixon and 19-year-old centre/wing Tyler Morgan.

Amos has been capped just once while Dixon and Morgan are yet to make their Test bows but Faletau may not be the only Dragon on World Cup duty come September.

Centre Morgan was withdrawn from the Wales squad for the current Under-20 Championships to be called up to the seniors following a serious injury to Jonathan Davies while Dixon has long been on the national coach's radar after playing in the last three Junior World Championships, and Amos is pushing for a place after topping the region's try-scoring chart's this season.

North, who at 19 years and 166 days became the youngest ever try scorer in World Cup history four years ago, believes their form in front of the national coaches at training will be the determining factor.

"I think it's massively important that a number of young and inexperienced players have been picked in the training squad," said North, speaking as Land Rover unveiled an official Rugby World Cup mascot as part of Land Rover's 'We Deal In Real' campaign that aims to put grassroots rugby on the global stage.

"Warren Gatland has always picked players on form regardless of age. The fact the guys have been are performing well and putting their hands up is what has got them noticed.

"They just have to get their heads down and keep working hard. I remember being a younger member of the squad, you just want to impress.

"From what I have heard and seen of Jack and Tyler, they've been playing really well. From a Dragons point of view, it's great for the region to have several players called up to the squad. They battled hard this season and are making steps forward.

"They may be new to the squad but they still have a chance of putting their hands up for selection. "You're only an injury away from seeing your chance go, but then that opens the door for someone else."

North himself has now been cleared to return to full training after not playing since March because of a series of head injuries, and the Welshman admits the experience has left him counting down the days until pre-season.

"After you've been out for a few weeks, it's always nice to get back into full training. I don't normally enjoy pre-season training but I'm really looking forward to it," he added.

"It's massively exciting to be getting closer to the World Cup. It's not just England we have to worry about, there's Australia and Fiji, it's a really tough group and you can't really pick out any specific game.

"The focus will be on trying to get out of the group and give ourselves the best chance of progressing."
