WALES goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey is expecting a busy night against Belgium on Friday but he’s convinced that he and the team will come through the test and qualify for Euro 2016.
Belgium come to the Cardiff City Stadium ranked second in the world and boasting a vast array of attacking talent.
Hennessey knows he and his defence will have a tough task to keep the likes of Eden Hazard, Christian Benteke, Romelu Lukaku and Dries Mertens quiet.
But, with Wales only behind the visitors on goal difference in group B, the Crystal Palace stopper believes that the nation’s long wait to qualify for a major tournament could be over very soon.
“There’s always been belief in the camp,” said Hennessey. “We all look around now and we’ve got a good squad, the staff are superb and we’ve got a great little unit.
“I think this is our time. We’ve got some fantastic ability in this group; the boys are buzzing whenever we meet up with Wales and this is our time.”
Hennessey has struggled to earn a regular starting spot in club football over the past few years but has been in inspired form for his country.
The 28-year-old will win his 49th cap against Belgium – one behind star man Gareth Bale – and he’s looking forward to playing in front of a sell-out 33,000 crowd but he has warned that Wales cannot just defend.
“We’ve achieved a lot in this campaign and now we’ve got a full-house and we need the crowd to be the 12th man on Friday,” he said.
“It’s only half done at the moment. We’ve done fantastic to get there but there are still a lot of games to go and a lot of points to play for.
“No matter what team you play against, especially in our group, there are going to be times when you have to park the bus in front of the goal and try to hit teams on the counter-attack,” he added, recalling the 0-0 draw in Brussels last November.
“That night in Belgium they played very good football and it was difficult.
“At some points we had to just defend for our lives and we did that but we’re not just a team who do it all the time.
“We’ve got fantastic forwards and we’re definitely not a team that will just sit back and defend.
“We all know what Belgium are about; they’re a fantastic team but I hope I don’t have a busy night.
“We won’t be changing anything – we will be taking our game to them.”
