CAPTAIN Ashley Williams says the Wales squad is excited by the chance to make history in qualifying for Euro 2016 and he believes they have the talent to beat a Belgium team ranked second in the world.
Williams will lead his country out against the Group B table-toppers tomorrow night with the nation dreaming of a first major finals since 1958 following an unbeaten start to the campaign, which sees them level on points with the Belgians.
And the Swansea City star admits the squad are embracing the belief building up around the country ahead of tomorrow’s showdown at the Cardiff City Stadium.
“We can sense the whole country is excited about the team and that everyone wants to be at this game,” he said.
"That's what we've worked hard at. We have earned this excitement and expectation and we want to take it to the next level.
“People mention what's gone before but history is what it is – we have put the work in to change it. That has been our focus and our drive - to be the team that can get it done.
“We have had a good team for a while but never managed it but now we have got ourselves here, we want to seal the deal and get it done."
Williams added: “We have been through a tough time but we feel we have come out the other side and now the team spirit is massive in this group. It is the best I've been involved in.
“And that's the key. I feel other teams may have individual quality, but our group is so united it can overcome anything. Our unity and our group can overcome any team.”
Williams denied they will be bothered about the stars in Marc Wilmots' side – or the fact Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been ruled out with a groin and pelvis problem.
The 30-year-old said: “They're going to replace him with another quality player but the personnel doesn't matter because they have strength throughout.
"He's an awkward character, but take him out and there's somebody else to come in.
"I'm not fussed about the names, we'll figure it out when the teamsheets come in and we will concentrate on ourselves because we consider ourselves a match for anyone.”
