NEWPORT County AFC manager Terry Butcher says the club's Capital One Cup trip to Midlands giants Wolverhampton Wanderers will be an incentive for his new-look squad to hit the ground running in August.
The Exiles were drawn away to Wolves, who have former County star Lee Evans in their ranks, this morning and the tie will be played in the week beginning August 10.
“It’s a cracking draw,” said Butcher. “We go there with no expectations and everyone will have written us off.
“But it’s good, especially early in the season, to go there and pit our wits against a top Championship side who really weren’t that far off the play-offs last season.
“We’ll certainly go there in good spirits, get our maps out, get the bus going and make sure we get our preparations right.
“It’s something to look forward to; a big game like that early on will be an incentive for everybody to get going fast.”
New signing Scott Barrow is also pleased with the draw.
