TORFAEN Tigers make the short trip to Gloucester tomorrow in buoyant mood as they seek a third win on the spin in the RFL Conference South.
The Cwmbran-based side take on Gloucestershire Warriors (kick-off 2.30pm) at Oxstalls Sports Park on the back of morale-boosting successes against Oxford Cavaliers and Sheffield Hallam Eagles.
Another win will take them above fellow Welsh side The Raiders, who have a bye week, and could lift them as high as fifth in the nine-team league.
Coach Kyle Scrivens said: “We’re looking forward to the game, confidence is high on the back of a couple of wins. A few boys put their hands up last week in the development game against Bristol Sonics so there’s a lot of competition for places this week.
“Gloucester have had a mixed season as well, but we’re under no illusions that they'll be a tough outfit to beat on their own patch.”
Leaders Valley Cougars host Coventry Bears reserves at Treharris RFC (kick-off 2.30pm), the day before Scorpions host their first team at Mountain Ash.
There’s nothing their director of rugby Paul Emanuelli would like to see than two wins out of two over the west midlanders.
“Everyone is upbeat in the Cougars camp at the moment,” he said. “We've been on a decent run since our opening day defeat and Saturday will probably bring the biggest test of the season so far.
“It's first versus second at Treharris RFC and the boys won't need much rallying from head coaches Dai Hellard and Steve Bray to be up for this one.
“I know Scorpions players will be there supporting the Cougars and the same will happen on Sunday but the reverse way round. We want to start this big weekend with a win.”
Welsh Conference South fixtures: Aber Valley Wolves v Gwendraeth Valley Raiders (Senghenydd RFC, 2pm), Cardiff City A v Cardiff City B (Cardiff Arms Park, 2.15pm)
