GLAMORGAN will look to press home their slight advantage on day three of their LV= County Championship clash with Leicestershire in Cardiff after edging a first innings lead.
It was slow going on a slow wicket at the Swalec Stadium as Glamorgan bowled out the Foxes for 253, giving them an advantage of 25.
The hosts were in trouble after losing Will Bragg and Ben Wright cheaply but closed on 64-2 will hope their South African pair of Jacques Rudolph (14*) and Colin Ingram (38*) can put them in command to set up a fourth successive championship win to keep pace with promotion rivals Surrey.
Glamorgan struck early in the morning when Craig Meschede bowled Ned Eckersley for 10 in the second over.
That meant an early start for former Glamorgan favourite Mark Cosgrove and the left-hander shared a third-wicket stand of 64 with Matthew Boyce.
It looked like Cosgrove was going to kick-start a frustrating season on his return to Cardiff but he was out for 38 from 51 balls when he clipped Andrew Salter to Wright at short leg, the burly Australian initially standing his ground after the catch somehow stuck.
Leicestershire moved on to 138-3 at lunch with Boyce on 46 and Andrea Agathangelou on 20.
The pair would have been disappointed with their dismissals in the afternoon session with the former trapped leg before when playing outside a Michael Hogan delivery and the latter bowled by Meschede after a misjudgement.
The Foxes, whose victory at Essex this month was their first away championship success for five years, recovered through Irish wicket-keeper Niall O’Brien and Tom Wells.
Their 41-run partnership for the sixth wicket, with Glamorgan guilty of over-bowling spinner Salter, gave the visitors hope of a first innings lead.
However, O’Brien fell for 39 after being strangled down the legside, caught by Wallace off the bowling of Andy Carter, and was swiftly followed with the score on 222 by Wells, caught at slip by Rudolph off Graham Wagg for 17.
Leicestershire reached 238-7 at tea before the tail was wrapped up – Clint McKay caught in the deep for 13 off Salter, Jigar Naik bowled through the gate by Hogan for 2 and Ben Raine caught at long off by Meschede off Carter for 16 to give the hosts what turned out to be a precious 25-run lead.
In response Glamorgan suffered an early blow when opener Bragg was caught behind off seamer Raine without scoring and Wright followed for a duck when snaffled by Angus Robson at slip off McKay.
However, the South Africans settled any nerves to leave Glamorgan starting day three with a lead of 89 with eight wickets remaining.
