TRANMERE Rovers defender Danny Holmes has agreed to sign for Newport County AFC, subject to a medical.
The 26-year-old right-back turned down a new deal at Conference club Tranmere, who were relegated from League Two last season.
He becomes Terry Butcher's fifth new signing at Rodney Parade after goalkeeper Rhys Taylor, defender Scott Barrow, winger Alex Rodman and striker Lenell John-Lewis.
And there could be more new arrivals on the way today as the Exiles boss looks to boost his squad ahead of the start of pre-season training on Monday.
"Danny has agreed to sign, subject to a medical, and that solves a good problem area for us," Butcher told the Argus.
"He's got good experience and he's a good age and as soon as he found out we were interested he was desperate to sign for us."
Excited about a new challenge with @NewportCounty and looking forward to getting down to South Wales to get started and meet the fans!
