NEWPORT & District Schools U11s qualified for the Welsh Schools Cup finals day after beating Caerphilly Schools.
Newport showed some real class and determination in the games and thoroughly deserved their win. A world class performance from goalkeeper Jose Casa-Grande and goals from Tanatswa Nyakuhwa, Rafferty Richards plus team Captains Isaac Jeffries and Sonny Lewis secured the win.
After b eating the table leaders Caerphilly in the last game of the qualifying stage, Newport now top the table themselves and will go into the finals full of confidence. Newport had also had some previous good results against neighbours Torfaen and RCT.
They will travel to Ystrad Munach’s Centre of Sporting Excellence on April 23rd to take on the best school boys in Wales which will include Swansea, Cardiff, Wrexham, Flintshire, Pembrokeshire, Afan Nedd and Caerphilly for a chance to win the famous Tom Yeoman Shield.
Newport last won the shield in 2011 in Wrexham with an excellent win in the final against Pembrokeshire.
Last year they were knocked out in the semi finals against Flintshire.
