NEWPORT City are seeking to reverse last week's decision to fold and withdraw from the Welsh League, which starts in less that two weeks.
Dave Jones, an ex-Newport County forward, and Alan Watkins last week informed the league and the Football Association of Wales they were following manager Ben Hartrey out of the Newport Stadium exit door.
In a letter signed by both, they explained there were not enough players, officials or funds available for the club to start the 2016-2017 campaign by visiting Pontypridd Town on Friday, August 12.
Now 48 hours later, a statement on the clubs' officials twitter account reads: “We are sure you are all aware of the reported news that Newport City (formerly Llanwern A.F.C.) has folded.
“Thanks to some dedicated individuals within the club, we are in the process of reversing the decision and retaining our Welsh League Division Two status.
“We feel the club with a stature such as this, with fantastic foundations in place including the training facilities and the home ground of Newport Stadium, would mean a huge loss to many associated with the club as well as the city of Newport.
“However we are in need of proving a solid structure to move forward, both on and off the pitch, so would welcome dedicated individuals to become part of the clubs ASAP.
“From secretary, chairman potential sponsors to tea ladies, we welcome all to be part of the Newport City family and keep the club were we belong.
“We encourage players still looking for clubs to get in touch and take this team from the brink to create something special and move the club forward to fulfil its huge potential.
If City are to make that first fixture against Pontypridd, they will quickly have to prove to Welsh League officials, and the FAW, the club has the correct officials in place as well as the financial ability.
In an email response, league secretary Ken Tucker wrote: “The latest information received from the Club, is that they are experiencing some difficulties, which they hope to resolve within the next seven days.”
Newport City were re-branded from Llanwern AFC in May after finishing 12th of 16 in last season's Division Two table.
