THE Newport County AFC Academy are delighted to have received £2,500 from the Smile Council supporters group.
A cheque was presented at half time during Saturday's County v Mansfield game at Rodney Parade.
The money will help with this season's running costs and the Smile Council have agreed to give them another £2,500 mid-season.
Over the past four years, the Smile Council has given the academy in excess of £20,000, which has helped them to raise the standard of coaching, facilities, time and equipment to give their players the best chance of becoming scholars.
Darren Broadribb (7-16s Academy Operations) said: “The Smile Council has played a big part in the academy’s success over the past four years and we really appreciate their support.
"Through their hard work raising money, hosting events and generosity the money has helped us to improve all areas of the academy.
"We have already seen the benefits with so many of our U18s breaking into the first team squad over the past few years.
"So, on behalf of everyone at the academy, I would like to say a very big thank you."
