CWMBRAN archer Dave Phillips and partner Tania Nadarajah fell agonisingly short in their bid for mixed team recurve glory at the Rio Paralympics.
The British pair trailed Iran's Ebrahim Ranjbarkivaj and Zahra Nemati by two sets in tonight's quarter-final before fighting back to take the match into a shoot-off.
Both duos hit an eight and seven with their two arrows but Phillips and Nadarajah's opponents were closer to the bullseye.
Phillips still has a medal chance left when he goes in the men's individual recurve on Tuesday.
The 50-year-old will go up against Brazil’s Francisco Cordeiro in the last 32.
The Welshman and Nadarajah had beaten Chinese Taipei's Lung-Hui Tseng and Yun-Hsienin Lee in the last 16 earlier today to go through to their showdown with the top seeds.
While the Iranians comfortably saw off France, Phillips and his partner beat their Taipei opponents by three sets to one.
Tseng and Lee scored just one point less than the British in Saturday's ranking round but had no answer to their opponents today. On total points registered they were 128-118 down at the end.
