NEWPORT County AFC have announced the signing of defender Mark O’Brien from Luton Town until the end of the season.
O’Brien, aged 24, joins the Exiles in time for this weekend’s League two encounter with Stevenage at Broadhall Way after his Luton contract was terminated by mutual agreement.
The Dublin-born defender was signed by Derby County in 2008 from Cherry Orchard.
He played 32 games for the Rams before moving to Luton in 2015 and has also had loan spells at Motherwell and Southport.
Speaking after the deal had been agreed manager Graham Westley said: “As a young player, Mark performed exceptionally for Derby County.
“He played on loan for my assistant at Southport and Dino [Maamria] cites Mark as a major reason why Southport rose under his leadership.
“He values clean sheets and he spreads an infectious attitude towards defending.”
