EBBW Vale teenager Jackson Page will get to mix it with snooker’s big boys next week after being given a wildcard entry into the Coral Welsh Open.
Under-18 world champion Page, who is only 15 years old, faces England’s Jason Weston in the first round on Monday afternoon.
Page could meet Newport’s Ian Preece in round two if he wins and the latter overcomes John Astley at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena.
Cwm cueman Mark Williams, winner of the tournament in 1996 and 1999, kicks off against Elliot Slessor on Tuesday afternoon.
Newbridge’s Lee Walker meets Rhys Clark and Jak Jones, from Cwmbran, plays Craig Steadman.
Llanelli’s Tyler Rees, 18, has also been handed a wildcard and will start his campaign with an all-Welsh clash against Jamie Jones.
Matthew Stevens, Ryan Day, Dominic Dale, Michael White, Duane Jones, Daniel Wells, Gareth Allen and David John make it 15 Welshmen in all competing in the capital.
Reigning champion Ronnie O’Sullivan begins the defence of his title against fellow Englishman Tom Ford.
The Coral Welsh Open runs from February 13-19.
