MEMBERS of the Torfaen Taekwondo Club returned from the Welsh Championships with another impressive haul of medals.
The event was held in the National Indoor Arena Cardiff (NIAC) and the club took home 21 gold, 10 silver and 16 bronze medals.
Gold medals went to: Alfie Wills (boys yellow belt tiny tot sparring), Darcey Jordan (girls yellow belt patterns and peewee sparring), Riley Hewitt (boys yellow belt peewee sparring), Alex Lau (men's yellow belt lightweight sparring), Summer Underwood (girls green belt patterns), Holly Cockeram (girls green belt lightweight sparring), Kalim Hussain (boys green belt patterns and peewee sparring), Kristopher Jones (boys green belt heavyweight sparring), Jonathan Underwood (men's green belt patterns), Rallis Farfarakis (men's blue belt patterns), Lauren Neale (cadet female blue belt patterns and lightweight sparring), Maya Levan (cadet female black belt middleweight sparring), Kieran Sullivan (cadet boys black belt patterns and middleweight sparring) and Carl Betty (men's black belt featherweight sparring). In the teams event, Team Kalim, Neo & Joe, Team Josie and Team Libby & Catrin also took the gold medals.
Silver medals went to: Jack Williams (boys yellow belt lightweight sparring), Jill Griffin (ladies red belt light heavyweight sparring), Catty Langford (girls black belt lightweight sparring), Sofea Levan (girls black belt patterns), and Maya Levan (cadet female black belt patterns). As for the teams event, Team Callum, Team Grace & Lauren, Team Jill, Team Jasmin, Catty & Sofea and Team David also took silver medals.
Bronze medals went to: Ashley Lloyd (boys yellow belt patterns and tiny tot sparring), Joe Underwood (boys yellow belt tiny tot sparring), Hollie Baker (girls yellow belt peewee sparring), Lucy Sharp (girls yellow belt peewee sparring), Summer Underwood (girls green belt peewee sparring), Libby Morgan (girls blue belt lightweight sparring), Samuel Cook (boys blue belt lightweight sparring), Grace Cole (girls red belt middleweight sparring), Sofea Levan (girls black belt lightweight sparring) and Cameron Ferrie (cadet boys black belt patterns and light heavyweight sparring). Team Darcey, Lucy & Summer, Team Alfie, Travis & Riley, Team Tomos & Liam, and Team Maya also took bronze medals.
The club would also like to congratulate and welcome its new 1st Degree Black Belt holders - Elijah Pearson, Cara-Leigh Edwards, Tirion Tibbs, Scarlett Pearson and Stewart Davies. They took their black belt grading at the TAGB Bristol Taekwondo Headquarters. They had to perform their gradings in front of a panel of six examiners, where they have to perform their patterns (sets of movements) and sparring, as well as answering some Korean terminologies regarding taekwondo. The club wishes them the very best in their next taekwondo journey.
