NEWPORT County AFC boss Michael Flynn has captured one of his “main targets” this summer with midfielder Matt Dolan signing a two-year deal.
The Hartlepool-born 24-year-old turned down the offer of a new contract at Yeovil Town to join the Exiles.
“I’m delighted to sign for County and am really excited for a new challenge ahead,” he said.
“The manager’s enthusiasm and ambition is really exciting and I’m looking forward to the upcoming season as we look to make it a really positive one.”
Dolan, a midfielder who is also comfortable in defence, began his career with Middlesbrough.
While there he had loan spells at Bradford City, Hartlepool United and Yeovil, where he was part of the side that earned promotion to the Championship in 2013.
“Matty comes from a good pedigree having started his career at Middlesbrough and is technically one of the best midfielders in the league,” said County chief Flynn.
“He’s very good on set-pieces and an all-round intelligent footballer.
“I’m really excited having Matty in, he was one of my main targets this summer and fits the criteria of what we want at this football club.
“He’s ambitious and buys into what we’re aiming to achieve with a successful season.”
Exiles fans will be pleased to know that Dolan can chip in with the odd goal, something he showed to full effect last August.
Dolan scored from inside his own half during Yeovil’s 2-0 win against Walsall in the EFL Cup.
