A TALENTED bowler from Monmouth School for Boys has put three of the England women’s cricket team in a spin.
Sam Swingwood, who bowls leg spin, was invited to train with the England women’s cricket team in Bristol through his involvement with Gloucestershire County Cricket Club’s Academy.
The 14-year-old took part in a three-hour net session last week when he bowled at England women’s stars, including Tammy Beaumont, Sarah Taylor and Katherine Brunt.
Sam enjoyed the experience of bowling to international cricketers and dismissed Beaumont, Taylor and Brunt with his spinning deliveries.
The net session proved very beneficial for Sam because he returned career-best figures of 8-23 for the school’s first team against Solihull School last Friday. The teenager then snapped up 4-34 against Bristol Grammar on Saturday.
Sam, who is in Year 10, is a regular member of Monmouth Cricket Club’s table-topping first team where he plays alongside his father, Paul Swingwood, in the South East Wales League Division Two.
