NEWPORT County AFC have made their third signing of the January transfer window with a deadline day deal for Cambridge United forward Adebayo Azeez.
The 25-year-old former Charlton Athletic youth player has arrived on a permanent deal, with Cambridge revealing that the clubs had agreed an “undisclosed fee” for the player.
Azeez follows loan signings Vashon Neufville and Regan Poole in moving to Rodney Parade this month.
Subject to EFL, FA and international clearance, Azeez has been signed in time to play in Saturday’s League Two match at Grimsby Town.
The pacey front man enjoyed loan spells at Wycombe Wanderers, Leyton Orient, Torquay United and Dagenham & Redbridge, before leaving Charlton for AFC Wimbledon in 2014.
Azeez helped Wimbledon win promotion from League Two, scoring 14 goals in 98 appearances before moving on to Partick Thistle and then Cambridge in 2017.
He scored nine goals in 60 games for the U’s, making his final appearance in last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Exeter City.

Following the completion of the deal, Exiles boss Michael Flynn said: "I'm delighted. He's got blistering pace, He adds to our attacking line-up and the competition for places shows we are planning for the future as well.
"I am sure if he fulfils his potential and continues to learn from us, he will be a Championship player before long. I am really excited."
After signing the deal, Azeez said: "I am so pleased it is all over the line now. As soon as I heard about Newport's interest, I was up for coming down and signing straight away.
"I'd describe myself as an athletic player, I'd like to think I am pretty fast, I always work as hard as I can for the team and try and stick as many chances as I can away in the back of the net."
Meanwhile, BT Sport has announced that it will broadcast Manchester City’s fifth-round FA Cup tie at County or Middlesbrough at 5.30pm on Saturday, February 16.
