NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn has challenged his players to repeat the “perfect away performance” they produced at Notts County when they go to MK Dons on Saturday.

The Exiles cruised to a 4-1 win at Meadow Lane on Tuesday night to end a run of seven successive away defeats in League Two.

They remain 15th in the table, but Flynn hopes it was the start of a late charge for the play-offs.

“It’s an important win, but we’ve got to back it up now,” said the manager.

“We need back-to-back wins and we need to go on a bit of a run.

“We’ve got 14 games to go, we’ve got a game in hand and we’re six points away. But it all depends on what we do on Saturday.

“I’m not getting carried away. We’ve won a game away from home, but we’ve got three out of the next four away from home.

“Let’s hope it’s like London buses – you wait ages for one and then two or three come along at once.”

Flynn made just one change from Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Manchester City for Tuesday’s match.

“Top players can find that consistency, that drive and that motivation to go again,” he explained.

“Notts County might have thought it was a good time to play us but we did a professional job.

“If you want to be at the top at whatever level you’re at you’ve got to put professional performances together and hopefully that’s the first of a few now.

“I knew that we had to get back to winning ways in the league away from home.

“We’ve done that and we’ve clawed a little bit back on the goal difference as well.”

Joss Labadie, who hit the post with a spectacular effort on Tuesday night, could be a doubt for the MK Dons match.

“We’re going to have to assess it,” said Flynn. “I’m hoping it’s a bit of cramp but he might have had a slight twinge.”
