SCRUM-HALF Charlie Davies, the man who scored the Dragons’ winner in their European upset at Gloucester, is to retire from professional rugby, writes Chris Kirwan.
The 28-year-old has spent this season with Northampton after leaving Rodney Parade and made five appearances for the Saints, including a cameo off the bench in the 48-14 win against the Dragons in the European Challenge Cup in December.
The Saints, who will aim to confirm a place in the Gallagher Premiership play-offs next weekend, confirmed last week that Davies would be leaving the club.
And the scrum-half revealed on Twitter that he will be retiring as a pro, writing: “What a blast, thank you for all those who have been a part of my journey but looking forward to the next chapter in my life!”

Davies spent three seasons at the Dragons after signing from Wasps in 2015 and made 54 appearances.
The Welsh-qualified half-back was a popular member of the squad and provided one of the region’s most memorable moments at Kingsholm in 2016.
Davies peeled away from a driving maul to stun the Shed in the famous 23-21 European Challenge Cup quarter-final victory in the West Country.
