VALLEYS Gymnastics Academy are celebrating after two of its members gained selection for the British Foundation Squad for 2020.
Halle Cegielski and Ben Scourse performed so well in 2019 that British Gymnastics chiefs offered them places in the women’s and men’s squads respectively.
Cegielski is already part of the Welsh Academy and Welsh Development Squad and has now been given the opportunity to train with the top nine and 10-year-olds in Great Britain.
She achieved selection by finishing fourth in the combined British competitions for nine-year-olds.
The reigning Welsh champion on bars and ’range and conditioning’ for her age, she and her Wales team-mates secured third place in the team competition.
The youngster will now attend regular training sessions with the British coaches.
Meanwhile, Scourse will re-join the men’s squad having also been a part of the group this year.
Based on competition results in 2019, Scourse was one of 20 boys from across Great Britain to be selected.
