NEWPORT County AFC have announced their first signing of the January transfer window ahead of tonight’s Leasing.com Trophy tie against MK Dons with the arrival of forward Billy Waters on loan.
The 25-year-old joins from League Two rivals Northampton Town until the end of the season.
Waters began his career at Crewe Alexandra before moving to Cheltenham Town in the summer of 2015.
In his two year stay at Whaddon Road, he found the net 27 times in 69 starts and 24 substitute appearances, helping the club to win promotion back to the EFL.
Waters joined Northampton at the beginning of the 2017-2018 season.
He’s since enjoyed loan spells with Cambridge United and Cheltenham and has made 13 appearances so far this campaign for Northampton without scoring.
After he put pen to paper, Waters said: "I am buzzing to have signed. I am very happy at how fast it has all been sorted and I am raring to get going now.
“I'll run my socks off for the club and try and do as much as possible to make sure we get the three points and start climbing that table towards the play-offs."
After the signing was completed, manager Michael Flynn said: "It's great news having Billy in. I have watched him for a number of years and I know he is someone who can play a number of attacking roles.
“He will provide that extra bit of impetus going forwards and hopefully bring the team more goals. I am delighted to get Billy in."
