NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn praised his players after an “outstanding” second-half performance saw them fight back from 1-0 down to win at 2-1 Scunthorpe United.
Substitute Jamille Matt equalised on 72 minutes and Padraig Amond swept in the winner four minutes later, just after Lee Novak was shown a straight red card for the hosts.
It ends a run of 10 games without a win in League Two for County, who climb back up to 11th in the table – 11 points below seventh-placed Forest Green Rovers with three games in hand.
“I’m obviously over the moon, especially after that first-half display when we were terrible,” said Flynn after the final whistle on a blustery afternoon at Glanford Park.
“We had the wind [at our backs] and we thought it would be an advantage but I read the riot act at half-time.
“I don’t do that often, if I’m honest, because it loses its effect.
“But, in the second half, I thought we were outstanding.
“The game-management was brilliant, the front three caused problems when Jamma came on, the midfield were winning second balls and they were all excellent.
“They all did their job and, as an away performance, I can’t give them any more credit than I’ve just given them.
“In the second half, they were outstanding.”
