DRAGONS fans who purchased the limited-edition NHS Heroes t-shirt have helped contribute to a fundraising campaign supporting the NHS.
To date a total of more than £30,000 has been raised.
Dragons' official kit partners VX3 joined forces with teams across the country to launch the NHS Heroes range - in support of NHS frontline staff who have been working to keep us all safe during the coronavirus pandemic.
Every sale of the Dragons t-shirt generated a £7.50 donation to the NHS, with funds going directly to support frontline efforts in Gwent.
VX3 have now announced that more than £30,000 has been raised so far. In a statement released online, Dragons issued a "huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to the fundraising cause".
"The Dragons t-shirt is a way for supporters to show their appreciation and thank the NHS and care workers during this difficult and unprecedented time," said a spokesperson.
Each t-shirt carries Clap for our Carers and a We are in this Together logos on the sleeves, a Heroes tribute to the NHS on the front plus the words ‘The Greater the Storm, the Brighter the Rainbow’ on the reverse. Rainbow colours also feature throughout.
Jonathan Westwood, Commercial Director at Dragons, said: “It’s been fantastic to see the success of the campaign with many of our supporters buying the t-shirt produced by VX3 in support of our heroes in the NHS.
“We have worked closely with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board throughout the COVID-19 pandemic with our Rodney Parade home hosting a rapid testing centre.
“It’s been inspiration to see the dedication of NHS staff and the t-shirt has given supporters the chance to not only show their appreciation and thank care workers but also generate a donation that goes directly to support front line efforts in our region.”
The fundraiser Dragons t-shirt remains available to order.
It is priced at £30 for adults and £25 for youth sizes.
Rugby teams across the country have got on board with the NHS fundraiser.
Keynsham RFC, Aberystwyth RFC, Brixham RFC and Paignton RFC are just some of the clubs to have joined the Dragons in supporting the NHS.
In a post on social media, kit manufacturers VX3 expressed their gratitude to all who had bought the limited-edition shirts.
"Thank you to all our clubs who have supported our NHS Heroes tee campaign," they said.
