DRAGONS centre Connor Edwards has joined English Championship side Doncaster Knights for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old from Croesyceiliog has made the move to Yorkshire in a bid for game time after failing to appear for Dean Ryan’s side so far in 2020/21.

It will be a third spell in England's second tier after previously playing for Hartpury and Jersey.

The centre is one of the generation of young players who have been hindered by the lack of Celtic Cup or Welsh Premiership rugby.

Edwards played for the A team in friendlies against the Scarlets and Cardiff Blues was an unused replacement against Leinster a fortnight ago.

He will head to Doncaster to try and reignite his career after being hindered by injuries since making an impression in 2017/18.

South Wales Argus:

Edwards made 10 appearances under Bernard Jackman and caught the eye with his direct running and strong defence in midfield.

However, he then suffered a broken cheekbone and torn knee ligaments that ruined his following campaign.

Edwards returned to enjoy three outings in 2019/20 with a start against Leinster and appearances off the bench against Enisei-STM and Benetton.

Now he will attempt to make an impression at Castle Park with the Knights getting their season under way against former Dragons boss Paul Turner’s Ampthill on Sunday.

Edwards joins a Doncaster squad that includes former Scarlets and RGC fly-half Billy McBryde and ex-Merthyr speedster Kyle Evans.
