FIRST things first - the Newport Gwent Dragons squad deserve huge plaudits for their against-the-odds holiday double against Llanelli Scarlets and Glasgow.

They must have been the only ones who even remotely expected it - and how they put us through the shredder to achieve it, with a last-second triumph against the Scarlets and hanging on for dear life up in bitter Glasgow on Friday night.

But they did it - and against near insurmountable odds as well, especially against a Scottish side who hadn't lost at home for 15 months.

And then the Dragons, already without ten players, lost two more in Kevin Morgan and Rhys Thomas, were without yellow carded Paul Emerick for the final ten minutes and battled on with two loose head props right through the second half.

So give them their due as yet again they demonstrated massive spirit, their willingness to battle against adversity and that sheer ability to play for one another.

So for one website contributor, who is clearly from the inside', to suggest I denigrated the efforts of the team in beating the Scarlets by pointing out that the victory should not mask all the other Dragons problems is plain madness.

And just as inane, the same individual suggests I should come up with the money to bring in the badly needed players from home and abroad, or that I could do it in conjunction with alleged cohorts Paul Turner and Steve Lewis (where does that come from?).

The same person claims he doesn't have much time for two major individuals on the board and confesses ignorance to what is going on at that level, but then proceeds to give chapter and verse on how Marcus Russell departed the Dragons in the early days.

How does he know such detail if he isn't fully involved, if not even a member of the board? If it's who we think it is then he is the problem, the real negative influence, the person who is holding back progress and in some cases even anti-Dragons.

As such he ought to be removed, and I've already suggested to the Welsh Rugby Union that they ought to move in and take action - two wins in a row can't be allowed to distract from the major issues.

I have so many questions for the board, some of which I will detail on behalf of all Dragons fans.

l Are you currently negotiating with coach Paul Turner to offer him - and fellow coaches Dai Rees and Leigh Jones - new contracts? If not, why not?

l Are you aware that current experienced players want to leave at the end of the season when their contracts are up? And what steps are you taking to keep them?

l How far down the road, if at all, are you towards attracting badly needed new players to Rodney Parade for next season?

l Do you think it was a good idea to ask supporters to buy season tickets and pledge to bring in an overseas star with the money only to fail to do it?

l Have you done all you can to attract sponsors and bring new business on board in what is now a flourishing area, around Newport at least?

l Why haven't you extended the number of people on the board to bring in key personnel from the rest of Gwent, not just those associated with Newport RFC?

l If other people of real substance did offer to come on board but wanted a say in the running of the Dragons would you welcome them or would you turn them down?

We would welcome replies to all these questions. But don't hold your breath.

Now either because of injuries or a small squad or both the Dragons are in no position to rotate to some degree at least. The same players are turning out week after week which is asking far too much of them and no doubt they will also go down as well soon.

So we can't possibly get carried away by these two victories welcome though they may be. Reality, as ever, dictates otherwise.
