BOXING'S trainer of the year Enzo Calzaghe has dismissed suggestions that Enzo Macc-arinelli's monster cruiserweight unification clash with David Haye is a 50/50 contest, boasting that his man has the skills to beat Haye in any style of fight.

The BBC Sports Personality coach of the year has also expressed his pride after the Argus revealed New-bridge's WBA light welterweight champion Gavin Rees will be given the chance to headline a bill for the first time at the Cardiff International Arena.

Rees' maiden title defence, against Ukranian Andreas Kotelnik, is set for March 15, a week after Big Macc' and the Hayemaker' meet at the O2 Arena in London.

Maccarinelli's dream clash with Haye, on March 8, is already being hyped as the biggest British showdown since Chris Eubank faced Nigel Benn 15 years ago and both fighters showed a great deal of mutual respect at Monday's first head-to-head press conference.

Most neutrals are predicting an all-out war with both fighters having an equal chance of victory, but Cal-zaghe believes those predictions are wide of the mark.

He explained: "I have a lot of respect for David Haye the person, he didn't have to take this fight and he's given fight fans what they want.

"Already it is clear that interest in the fight is huge and I look forward to hearing everyone give their views on who will win.

"But it is simple as far as I am concerned, Enzo Maccarinelli is the more skilled fighter, he has more in his arsenal than David Haye.

"Haye says it is two bangers getting in the ring, but Enzo is only a banger when he decides to be, he can outbox Haye.

"We will have a plan A, B and C for this fight and as long as Enzo is on his game I don't think we will have any problems, Haye is a good overall fighter but his style is very basic.

"He's never fought someone with Enzo's class and I expect Enzo to do a number on him, he will win the fight by way of stoppage."

Calzaghe is also pleased his young undefeated world champion Rees is getting the chance to step out of the shadows of his more illustrious stablemates.

"Gavin has been in Joe and Enzo's shadow and now is the time for him to step up and remind people that he didn't become a world champion by accident," he said.

"Any show in Wales is yet to be confirmed, but Gavin will relish the spotlight and the opportunity and I feel proud of him."

Calzaghe also revealed that negotiations to clinch a deal that will see undisputed super middleweight king Joe Calzaghe travel to Las Vegas to face Bernard Hopkins are "at an advanced stage."
