THE weather was again the biggest winner at the weekend, restricting the Monmouthshire Building Society Newport and District League to nine games on Saturday and three on Sunday.
The one game played in Premier X gave Pontnewydd United a 2-1 win over the Cwmbran side, Oakfield. Two goals from Chris Evans and David Watkins saw United through in a closely fought game.
In the Premier Y Division, the top-of-the-table clash between Cwmbran Town and Newport Civil Service ended with a 4-2 victory for the Civil.
Chris Wigmore (2) and Nigel Tadman (2) scored for the Civil to give them a slender one point lead over Cwmbran Town.
Trethomas Bluebirds were made to work hard against bottom club Coed Eva Athletic before running out 5-3 winners with goals from Kevin McCole (2), Lee Richards, Matt Hall and Daniel Olsen.
The two games played in Division One both ended all-square. Tradesmans Arms were behind to Caerleon Town until ten minutes from the end when they managed to score and get a 1-1 result.
Two goals for Cwmcarn Athletic from Bradley Pryce and Scott Llewellyn were cancelled out by two from Shaftesbury Youth's Carl Bale and Brian Dare.
In Division Two, Graig-y-Rhacca went down 3-2 at home to a strong Cwmbran Celtic side. Nathan Borja scored both goals for Rhacca.
Goals from Danny Tadman (2), Chris Moyse and John Howie gave Royal Mail a 4-2 win over Rogerstone. Ryan Davy scored both Rogerstone goals.
Pill AFC had little difficulty in dismissing Cosmos 3-0 thanks to goals from Peter Hutchinson (2) and Lance Moran.
Just one game in Division Three saw Royal Mail's Nigel Moore score all four goals in their 4-0 win over the Greenhouse.
Cwmbran Athletic went down 3-2 to Drakes in Sunday Division One.
In Division Two goals from Richard Jones (2), Darren Wheatstone (2), David Brice, Steve Wheatstone, Andrew Hayes and Tyrone Rowlands gave TRW an 8-1 win against the Pioneer.
Athletico Allsorts beat Royal Mail 4-1 with goals from Tim Powell (2) and Chris Hall (2).
