WITH the inclement weather continuing, almost all of tomorrow's local football programmeinvolving Gwent-based clubswill be subject to pitch inspections.

They'll hope for better news at Woodland Road where Croesyceiliog's home Nathaniel League Cup tie against Llanwern was postponed last Saturday because of a waterlogged pitch.

The teams will try again to earn the right to face Bryntirion Athletic at a neutral venue and on a date in March yet to be announced.

Croesyceiliog, of Division One of the MacWhirter Welsh League, have leading scorer Jody Jenkins unavailable, central defender Danny Clare injured and midfielder Danny Jenkins suspended, but welcome back Carl Evans from a ban.

Division Two outfit Llanwern will be minus holidaying midfield man Matthew Currie and injured utility player Steve Stinton.

Cwmbran, whose Scottish-born striker Martin Houston is the subject of seven days notice of approach from Croesyceiliog, are next in action on January 19th when they visit Dinas Powys.

In Division One, eighth-placed Newport YMCA can draw level on 25 points with not-in-action Cwmbran Town if they win at lowly Pontardawe Town.

YMCA will be without Michael Palmer (suspended for three matches), but have signed 18-year-old utility defender Leighton Burrows from Caldicot Town and he will go straight in to the squad for the game.

Caerleon are one place adrift of YMCA - with three games in hand - butthey travel to face Bridgend Town minus injured skipper and midfielder Martyn Phillips anddefender Wayne Jepson while forward Luke Cueto and midfielder Dean Clarke are serving three and one game suspensions.

Caldicot Town won 3-1 at home against Taffs Well last week to climb up to 12th of 18 and they can make further progress if they beat struggling visitorsMaesteg Park Athletic. However, they will have to do so without suspended goalkeeper James Smallcombe and injured defender Gareth Hayward.

Cwmbran Celtic are 11th in Division Two and have a trio of players - Mark Parfitt, Nathan Beer and Sam Winter - available again for the home encounter with Troedyrhiw while Tredegar Town, who lie one from the bottom, can not finalise a squad to face visiting Briton Ferry Athletic until tomorrow morning.

Seventh placed Risca United will again be without hamstring victim player boss Jeff Eckhardt by looking to follow up last Saturday's 1-0 home success over visiting Severn Sisters when they take on hosts Porthcawl Town, who are ninth.

Goytre, 12th, have Dean Randall back from suspension for their home match against Merthyr Saints, who are four places higher, while Severn Sisters are again in action against Gwent opposition - this time full-strength 13th-placed visitors Aberbargoed Buds.

Monmouth Town are one position below the Buds and will seek to stretch their unbeaten run to a seventh match when they entertain Cwmamman United.

The Kingfishers' Andrew Rogers will be missing because of a bout of flu while former player-manager midfielder Andrew Smith could make his first start since recovering from a broken leg.

At the bottom, Abertillery Excelsiorsmust start to pick up much needed wins if they are to climb the table, although fifth placed visitors Cwmaman Institute will prove to be extremely difficult opponents.
