NO GWENT sides were able to get in any Division One East action because of the poor weather, with only two matches in the section going ahead.
In one of them, Caerphilly's 20-12 away victory over Beddau elevated them above Blackwood into fourth position.
In Division Two East, all three sides from the county managed to play, although only Tredegar gained a win, with Newport HSOB and Pill Harriers slipping to home defeats.
Tredegar leap-frogged visiting Builth Wells into eighth place thanks to a 12-6 success, with tries coming from second-row forward Jamie Noble and number eight Stuart Jarman and a conversion by outside-half Greg Jones.
The home side were 3-0 down at the break before pulling clear late on after struggling throughout to turn a mountain of possession into points.
"We must have had about 70 per cent possession, but could hardly do a thing with it," observed Tredegar Supporters Club chairman Alan Medleycott.
"We even gained five strikes against the head, but for all our dominance we only scored the crucial converted try by Stuart (Jarman) with just three minutes remaining.
"We couldn't even blame the pitch, which was in very good condition considering the amount of rain we've had.
"It cut up a bit during the second half, but we are lucky in so much as it has a good grass covering."
The Old Boys lost at Abercynon, but team manager Kevin Morgan revealed he can take many positives in losing by just three points - 33-30 - against a team which sits in third position.
"It was a tremendous performance by the team and even our opponents agreed that a draw would have been the best result," said Morgan.
"OK, so it's a defeat, but we did manage to gain two bonus points from scoring four tries and losing within seven points.
"There are three teams going down from this division and every point is going to be extremely vital now.
"Our problem is we just can't afford to go into any game minus six players, as we had to do for this game.
"We've got full back Mike Burke playing at Newport and scrum-half Ryan James and centre Carl Pocock appearing for Cross Keys and we've not got the kind of squad which can absorb losing those type of players.
"However, our display in this match does make us hopeful of being successful in our bid to gain enough points to remain in this division.
"There is some good rugby played by some good teams in this section and we very much want to be in it again next season."
The Old Boys got off to a magnificent start by going 10-0 up within the first few minutes of the game, but were eventually trailing 33-23 when replacement scrum- half Andrew Screen's late try was converted by outside-half Will Edwards to round up the scoring.
Left-winger Lewis Rees, number eight Neil Fox-Smith and prop forward Tony Piper also scored tries for the Old Boys, while Edwards made up their points total by kicking another conversion and a couple of penalties.
One-from-the-bottom Pill went down to an 11th successive league defeat, this time 26-5 at the hands of visiting Ystrad Rhondda, who are second, with replacement flanker Ross Palmer, appearing on permit from Division One East outfit Newport Saracens, scoring their only points with a late try.
Abergavenny maintained the leadership of Division Three East with a 22-14 home success over Croesyceiliog.
In ensuring their team won for the 10th time in 11 league starts, Stuart Davies, Will Johnson and James Williams all touched down for the hosts, while number eight Dorian Green crossed twice in second-placed Garndiffaith's 32-0 victory over visiting New Tredegar.
Brynmawr are still third following a 34-0 home win over bottom-but-one Pontllanfraith, Gavin Knapp and Sitoh Nobitano both scoring a brace of five-pointers.
In Division Four East, not-in-action second-placed Abertillery saw leaders Gwernyfed increase their advantage with a 27-0 away success at Machen.
Nantyglo moved level with Abertillery in second following a 21-13 victory over Tredegar Ironsides.
There was little action in Division Five East, although the two games which did go ahead involved the top three.
Table-topping Blaenavon edged out visiting Llanhilleth 7-3, while the third v second clash between hosts Chepstow and Caldicot ended all square at 5-5.
Caerleon nearly got to three fiqures against hapless bottom-placed Whiteheads, but had to settle for a crushing 94-5 win to stay top of the Division Six East table.
