CAERLEON will bid to become Gwent's highest placed MacWhirter Welsh League Division One team tomorrow night when they travel to face Cambrian and Clydach (kick-off 7.30pm).

A draw will take Caerleon above Newport YMCA in eighth position on goal difference, while a win would also see them leapfrog over seventh-placed Cwmbran Town.

However, manager Bren-don Dowd will again be minus attacking midfielder Luke Cueto, who misses the clash while serving the second of a three match suspension.

"It's a difficult task for us because Cambrian and Clydach are a good side, although we are also in good form," said Dowd.

The boss missed his side's 2-1 win at Bridgend on Saturday because he was in north Wales on a spying mission, running the rule over future Welsh Cup fourth round opponents GAP Queens Park of the Cymru Alliance.

Meanwhile, Cwmbran Town's Scottish born striker Martin Houston is the target of Division One rivals Croesyceiliog and Goytre of Division Three.

Both clubs have placed seven days notice of approach for Houston, who joined the Crows from junior Coed Eva three seasons ago.
