JASON Forster, the former Newport and Newport Gwent Dragons captain, is going back to his roots and re-joining Newport Saracens for the rest of the season as a player.

Since leaving his home base Forster played a season with English Division One club Doncaster, then returned to Wales last summer to be player-coach with Welsh Premier Division champions Neath.

But it didn't work out and after his contract was abruptly ended, Forster took legal action against Neath for breach of contract which is still ongoing.

Forster recently had a brief spell with Rotherham, but their injured players returned sooner than expected so he is back home and will play for the Saracens where he began his career.

A delighted Sarries coach Paul Evans said: "Fozzie is joining us for the rest of the season, he has trained with us once and there was a real buzz because he's not only a tremendous player but with his experience he can help our players on and off the field.

"We've got quite a lot of young forwards and they are looking forward to working with him. Our gain in having him is other people's loss."

Forster said: "I'm going back to where I started and will be playing for the Sarries for the rest of the season. I keep myself fit and it will be nice to give something back."

The Sarries are one place off the foot of the Division One East table, but have games in hand and are still patiently waiting to play on their new ground off the Southern Distributor Road which has been delayed mainly because of access problems.

"We've had four games called off and we've had to play all our games away, so it's been tough," said Evans. "But we're hoping to play our cup game against Ystrad Rhondda a week Saturday on the new ground."
