THE weather again disrupted the league fixtures last weekend with nine games victims of waterlogged pitches and the entire Second Division schedule off.

Cwmffrwdoer Sports visited Mardy AFC in the First Division and secured the three points with a 7-2 victory, Mathew Shearman (3), Jamie Roach (2), Gareth Priest, and Lee Grimes the goalscorers. Aaron Davies and Stephen Smith scored for Mardy.

The bottom two clubs, Panteg AFC and Spencer Youth, met at Greenhill Road, the visitors returning with all three points after a 3-1 victory. Ben Wall (2) and Daniel Bailey scored for Spencer, Tom Wise for Panteg.

In Division Three, Sudbrook CC took advantage of Govilon playing in the Amateur Cup to take over as league leaders after a 3-2 home win over Pilcs, Richard Lund (2) and Russell Griffiths the marksmen.

Abergavenny Thursdays defeated Crusaders AFC 2-0 at Pen-y-Pound with goals from William Morris and Stephen Collett to move up into third place.

New Inn AFC had a 2-1 away win over Villa Dino Christchurch, Dan Westacott and Ryan Anderson, the goalscorers. Underwood Social Club defeated Caldicot Castle 2-1 at Llanmartin with goals from Bowen Jones and David Rees, while David Williams scored for the Castle.

This atrocious weather has now caused a serious problem a total number of 112 league fixtures have been postponed, 46 in the First Division, 39 in the Second and 27 in the Third.

One club who are to be commended are Third Division Govilon AFC, to try and ease the problem they have purchased a sponge machine to get rid of excess water on their pitch at a cost of £500.

This decision paid dividends last weekend as their Amateur Cup away game against Albion Rovers was switched as per rule, Govilon taking the spoils with a 5-0 win.
